The Genetic Counselor conducts patient/family interviews to obtain medical and family histories and provides genetic counseling to individuals and their families. Assists in coordinating genetic testing, helps to interpret genetic test results and communicate results to patients and families, and provides support to families and patients as needed through assessment of psychosocial needs. Assists with billing and insurance issues for the complexity of ordering genetic tests
In the pediatric service, the genetic counselor will assist Clinical Geneticist during clinic hours.
Requires a Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited training program with clinical experience obtained on rotation as an intern.
