The incumbent serves as the Chief over a major organizational unit focusing on imaging services in support of the Kansas City VA Medical Center and its mission, the delivery of health care services. The Chief is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Radiology Service Line. This encompasses the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of an integrated program and the applicable performance measures. The scope includes the supervision of a variety of radiology health care professionals and allied staff including but not limited to; physicians, technologists, nurses, and administrative staff. The supervision includes both staff at the Medical Center as well as ancillary facilities. The incumbent serves as one of the principle clinical advisors to the Chief of Staff for the overall scope ofRadiology care provided. The incumbent has the responsibility for planning, developing, and directing the general radiology, CAT scan, Ultrasound, MRI, Interventional radiology, and nuclear medicine operations of Imaging Service. This involves providing radiological studies in the inpatient and outpatient clinics, operating rooms, and ICU areas throughout the medical center. The incumbent will have administrative and professional oversight responsibility for all clinical, clerical and administrative staff in the Radiology Service Line. They may also have programmatic oversight and shared responsibility for inpatient nursing staff in patient care services with coordination from the Associate Director for Patient Care Services. Decisions are made exercising wide latitude and independent judgment. The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff, but largely operates on a day-to-day basis in an independent manner, with full responsibility to keep the supervisor apprised of activities and any issues in need of close collaboration.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: 3-5 years Leadership experience as Service Chief or equivalent.
Board Certification and Fellowship Training in Radiology HIGHLY PREFERRED.
Applicants with the following certifications from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) are highly preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). (AHA certification preferred.) The selected employee will be required to receive these certifications prior to assuming clinical responsibilities and ensure current certifications after employment is maintained.
