The Veteran's Administration Long Beach Health Care System (VALBHCS) is recruiting an outstanding, innovative physician to be a staff physician for the Emergency Department (ED). The ideal candidate will be a board certified or board eligible in emergency medicine physician. The staff physician will be expected to provide clinical care, support and implement plans of the section chief joining a group that includes other board certified emergency medicine physicians and group of fee-for-service emergency trained or experienced physicians. There will also be supervision of midlevel providers and resident physicians in addition to teaching opportunities with rotating resident physicians in the Emergency Department from the University of California Irvine. The staff physician will foster excellence in the delivery of high quality clinical care and investigation including ongoing quality improvement. Appropriate resources will be available to accomplish these goals.
The staff physician should be willing to explore options to better align delivery of clinical services and medical education between VALBHCS and University of California Irvine and various community referral hospitals. These relationships improve the coordination of patient care between hospitals and contribute to the effectiveness of the Health Care System's emergency medical services and disaster planning. Under the direction of the ED chief, the staff physician will participate and help align for greater collaboration in areas of mutual and overlapping interests, including pre-hospital care and disaster management, the care of critically ill and injured adults, acute infectious disease, injury prevention and the emergency care of all Veterans.
Work Schedule: Full-time- Weekday, Nights and Weekend Shifts to include Federal and Non- Federal Holidays.
Education : Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The candidate should be board certified or eligible in emergency medicine.
Licensure and Registration : Must have current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Physicians (Except Residents):The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
Language Proficiency : Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by Title 38 U.S.C. 7402 and 7405(f).
