This position is located in Vancouver, WA and is part of the VA Portland Health Care System. The Physician in this position will be expected to provide direct patient care and participate in clinical leadership, in the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Unit (CRU). Specific functions include:
Participate in the creation of policies, procedures and guidelines to assure provision of quality comprehensive services in the CRU
Provide direct patient care including admission history and physical (H&P), all day-to-day aspects of patient care, discharge summary, participation in discharge planning and any family conferences
Occasionally may provide patient care outside of the CRU, depending on Division needs
Collaborate with the Admissions Coordinator to ensure safe and appropriate CRU admissions, maximize the utilization of CRU beds, and maintain transparency in the admission process
Support the CRU medical teaching mission in coordination with the VAPORHCS and any outside teaching organizations
Participate actively in the monitoring of quality and performance measures within the CRU for compliance with standards, performance measures, patient safety, and other VA regulations
Participate in opportunities for public speaking, leading site visits, and advocating for CRU at the facility, VISN, and VACO levels
WORK SCHEDULE: Wednesday - Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Provide night and weekend call for CRU coverage.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

The position will require walking, standing or sitting during the entire work shift. Delivery of care in the home setting may also require extensive bending, lifting and twisting. Under urgent or emergency situations, the incumbent may need to run. The incumbent may also be required to drive in the dark and in inclement weather.
