The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) professional staff is seeking a full-time Supervisory Outpatient Psychiatrist to be the Clinic Director for our Outpatient Mental Health Clinic and provide excellent clinical care activities in our progressive, innovative health care system. This is a leadership position for a multi-disciplinary Mental Health Clinic to coordinate, facilitate and provide patient care and services. This position will be supervising and directing the clinical activities of other providers in the clinic. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to patient care and teaching in addition to strong leadership abilities and desire for influencing policies and affecting change. DEA-X certificate or plan to secure one is required. As an outpatient psychiatrist for SAVAHCS you will provide outpatient care for a diverse patient population working as part of a highly skilled interdisciplinary team. The incumbent will perform general outpatient services for a reduced panel of patients, as well as supervisory and management duties as the Clinic Director for the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic. Call is limited to covering the inpatient unit 2-3 weeks per year after hours (from home) and in person on the weekends all as a backup to psychiatry residents. Academic experience and research interest is a plus. Responsibilities include supervision and education of residents and medical students from our affiliate, the University of Arizona. Therefore, the selected candidate must also be eligible for an appointment with the University of Arizona. Academic rank and tenure status with the University of Arizona will be granted commensurate with qualifications/experience.
1. Experience with academic medical practice in a teaching hospital.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties in an inpatient/outpatient setting under normal and emergent conditions. Heavy lifting 45 lbs and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 45 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 6 hours per day; repeated bending up to 2-4 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted.
