Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the surgeon in the preoperative care and workup of patients to include:
Performs and records history and physical examination.
Executes and relays medical regimens as directed by the supervising physician and/or as described in the work agreement between the physician assistant and the supervising physician.
Writes routine admission orders and arranges for appropriate laboratory and x-ray studies and consultations.
Participates in postoperative care of patients in the clinic setting by recognizing and reporting postoperative complications.
Assesses the patient's postoperative course and implements indicated therapy as determined by the neurosurgeon or neurosurgical service protocol in the clinic setting.
As indicated indicated by his/her training and experience, performs therapeutic procedures under the direction of the surgeon in the clinic setting:
Examines preoperative and follow-up patients in the clinic and completes admission formalities including documentation of all outpatient activities in EpicCare.
Assists the surgeon with correspondence.
Performs all other duties assigned by the Chief Physician Assistant.
Participates in the acquisition to collect patient data in the clinic setting for program development.
Requirements and Education:
Must obtain and maintain BLS and participate in the holiday/weekend/call schedule as indicated. Must have demonstrated computer literacy, accurate and timely charting via Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Travel as indicated.
The successful Physician Assistant candidate will work under the responsibility and supervision of the physician and require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification or eligibility and Pennsylvania State licensure.
The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA.
