Performs basic and advanced polysomnography, and related tasks. Scores and analyses polysomnographic data. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. May be responsible for overseeing, training and evaluating the work of lower classified technical staff.
Must have two years post-high school education, preferably in a scientific field. Must have basic knowledge of physical sciences, mathematics, and statistics.
Must be a registered Polysomnographer having successfully met all the requirements set forth by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) and proficiency with all polysomnographic competencies.
Must be BLS certified through the American Heart Association.
Required one or more years working in the field of neurophysiology or sleep disorders medicine.
Must possess adequate understanding of all equipment used in sleep study and be able to troubleshoot as necessary. Must be able to detect and correct problems/artifacts in sleep records. Must be able to independently conduct patient hookups and equipment calibration. Such skills will normally be attained through three to six months’ experience in a sleep disorder center, or equivalent experience. Employees will have obtained passing grades in specified departmental tests as evidence of proficiency in these areas.
Must be able to score all parameters of a sleep record at acceptable level of reliability, by departmental scoring standards.
Must be able to operate computers at a basic level required for digital acquisition, analysis and storage of recordings.
Must have interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact and explain procedures to patients and their families.
Must be able to take patient temperature, weight, height, and blood pressure.
