The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix invites interest and nominations for the position of Inaugural Chief of Urology. As the first college of medicine in the nation’s fifth largest city, the College was granted full accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, or LCME and seeks to substantially grow through its collaborations and commitment to impact the health of the city and state. This is an historic opportunity for an outstanding academic urologist to build and expand the clinical, education and research components of this division as well as establish an ACGME approved Urology residency. The Chief will also serve as the Executive Director of the newly formed Urology Institute at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.
The February 2015 completion of the 30-year academic affiliation agreement between the University of Arizona and Banner Health provides a unique opportunity to further the growth of the College of Medicine – Phoenix through the development of a robust, academically oriented Division. Reporting to the Department Chair of Surgery, the Chief will recruit and engage full time faculty as well as partner with independent physicians practicing at the Urology Institute. The division currently has two newly recruited faculty members. The initial program growth for the Division will be in general, female, and reconstructive urology. Due to existing relationships, urologic oncology will not be an immediate area of focus.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic urologist with a strong record of research, teaching, clinical and administrative accomplishments in urology. He or she will have the in-depth knowledge and ability to effectively lead physicians, researchers, and educators while embracing the importance of quality and financial sustainability. Integrity, intellect, the ability to work effectively with numerous stakeholders and a vision of how medicine will thrive clinically, scientifically and financially in an age of health reform are essential.
Qualified candidates must hold an MD or equivalent medical degree; be board certified and eligible for medical licensure in Arizona; and meet University of Arizona criteria for appointment to a tenured level faculty position.
