The Director of Pharmacy shall ensure that the department meets all legal and accreditation/certification requirements. In addition, the Director shall ensure that the department complies with all applicable hospital policies, procedures, codes and standards. Under the general direction of the Senior Vice President & COO, the Pharmacy Director plans, organizes, directs and controls the Pharmacy so as to provide all required services.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Establishes, approves and/or reviews all methods, procedures and systems used in the ordering, compounding, preparation and dispensing of medications. 2. Develops and manages the pharmacy department Quality Improvement plan. 3. Directly supervises and evaluates pharmacy personnel. 4. Performs all the verification, preparation and dispensing duties of the staff pharmacist as necessary. 5. Develops and prepares operating and capital budgets, labor forecasts and other reports as required. 6. Operates department within budget guidelines. 7. Directs and coordinates the ordering, use and maintenance of all drugs, I.V. and irrigation solutions and associated supplies. 8. Maintains strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients or distributed to floor stock. 9. Supervises drug storage and preparation areas throughout the hospital. 10. Investigates and studies technical and professional developments in the field of Pharmacy and makes recommendations as to application in the hospital. 11. Compiles and evaluates data to ensure appropriate drug therapy in a wide range of patients. Understands and can assess the varying needs of different age patients (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric). 12. Participates in any committees or functions required by the hospital.
