Medical Laboratory Scientist Laboratory Services Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Florida Shift: Various Schedules
Responsible for performing medical procedures authorized by the medical laboratory director, the professional we select for this vital role will ensure that all laboratory testing is executed in compliance with established protocols and procedures. Exercising sound judgment in the evaluation and assessment of test performance, sample integrity, result accuracy and validity, this individual will follow all safety practices and maintain ongoing competence to ensure that testing services are of the highest possible quality.
Additional responsibilities include:
Participating in day-to-day operations in the laboratory to facilitate workflow, maximize output, and decrease turnaround times.
Following laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.
Using job knowledge, judgment, and problem solving skills to ensure specimen quality.
Operating, troubleshooting, and taking appropriate action on all test systems.
Identifying issues that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and taking appropriate action, including supervisory notification.
Participating in laboratory quality assurance programs, including proficiency testing.
Following established safety and biohazard procedures and standard precautions at all times.
Disposing of biohazard waste following laboratory protocols (Laboratory Safety Manual and Chemical Hygiene Plan).
Monitoring quality control of laboratory instruments and test assays.
Performing routine preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and troubleshooting of instruments.
Supporting professional development by assisting with training and/or competency assessments for coworkers, new employees, and students.
Ensuring that exceptional customer service is provided through prompt follow-up to requests for information via telephone or computer.
Education, Experience, and Licensure
Successful applicants will each possess a bachelor’s degree (medical laboratory technician-ASCP) or equivalent with laboratory internship as required by CLIA and state of Florida qualifications for licensure; active status for licensure as a clinical laboratory scientist under the rules of the Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel (Department of Health/Division of Medical Quality Assurance); and completion of required educational credits to maintain licensure. Three or more years of experience in a professional/technical role or related, and national registry (ASCP, NCA or similar) at a technologist level or higher preferred.
