Responsible for surveillance, prevention and control of KershawHealth's Infection Prevention and Control program. This includes targeted surveillance of patients using sound epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification, to identify target populations, analyze trends and risk factors, and design and evaluate prevention and control strategies. The Infection Preventionist is a qualified individual with knowledge of CDC guidelines and definitions of healthcare associated infections (HAIs), Joint Commission standards, federal and state regulations. She/he is responsible for the identification, investigation, reporting, prevention and control of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) among patients and personnel. She/he is responsible for assisting with in-service programs related to infection prevention and control.
Registered Nurse with SC License or Compact State License. BSN required; MSN Preferred. Work experience: One or more years of experience in Infection Control preferred . Knowledge and experience in areas of patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis, disinfection/sterilization, adult education, infectious disease, communication, program administration, and epidemiology preferred.
Certification in Infection Control by CBIC preferred on hire, but required within 30 months of assuming role. Must keep certification current at each renewal period.
Must maintain a current digital certificate for the National Health Safety Network (NHSN) that is renewed annually.
Must attend Basic Infection Control training within 6 months of hire if no prior experience in Infection Control. Must have ability to conduct surveillance, analyze results, and understand statistical variation related to infection rates and infection prevention and control processes. High degree of computer competence required in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) Experience or training in Surgery, Sterile Processing, Endoscopy and/or microbiology desired, but not required.
