This Health Policy Services Analyst position is housed in the Center for Professional Health of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The mission of CPH is to provide education and training to physicians and other healthcare professionals and to promote professionalism and professional health and wellness. Our priorities include offering courses to internal and external clients, nationally and internationally. The individual occupying this position is responsible for supporting complex qualitative and quantitative research projects in health, public health, health policy, health services research, course evaluation or other related disciplines under faculty guidance. Activities may include study coordination, literature searches, data collection, data analysis, and report preparation. The position provides general support to center programs, educational activities/projects, as well as material development related to professionalism and wellness in healthcare professionals. The position also coordinates dissemination of information to clients, leaders, and stakeholders.
The ideal candidate must be an independent/self-starter. They must work well with multiple faculty members/staff/participants simultaneously, take initiative to gather suitable data to address research and policy questions, and complete assignments in a timely manner. The responsibilities of this position will include quantitative, qualitative and written data analysis on issues of current CPH interest.
Coordinates research projects.
S upports research investigators and senior research staff on multiple studies.
Supports collaboration between team members, both internal and external to the department.
Prepares and executes portions of research projects in the areas of health, economics, and social sciences.
Assist and coordinates research grants, projects, and scholarship, including writing, literature reviews, and overseeing planning of activities, timelines and events.
Uses external resources to supplement, organize, and contribute to new and ongoing tasks.
Uses familiarity with federal and/or state healthcare measures and policy to conduct study-specific literature reviews and searches.
Collects, organizes, and critically analyzes data based on study goals.
Applies basic social science qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Communicates information concisely in written and graphic format.
Enters data into Redcap or similar entry mechanism.
Create references and bibliography lists for scholarship in Endnotes.
Create new and update libraries in Endnotes.
II. Data Analysis
Verifies entries and existing records to ensure accuracy.
Circulates and collects questionnaires from course participants.
Enters questionnaires, surveys and tests into the database through Redcap or Excel.
Troubleshoot and resolve problems with report output.
Develop written summaries for presentations in Powerpoint and Word document format.
III. Educational Activities and Projects
Develops evaluations summary reports on all educational activities/projects.
Enters and analyzes data from educational activities and projects.
Coordinates educational activities and projects in lieu of Program Manager when he/she is unavailable.
Assists in the development and preparation of educational materials (web modules, handouts, etc.).
IV. Center and Course Support
Assists with basic course sessions including the initial daily set up, directing participants to the class room, providing guidance with course, CME, and local area-related questions.
Exhibits strong communication and organizational skills with faculty, staff, and other clients.
Maintains professional at all times with CPH faculty, staff, and clients.
Participates in all CPH events and meetings (unless leaders authorize work as priority).
Completes other duties as assigned and within the scope of experience and aptitude. Is willing to assist where needed, particularly related to CPH courses.
Responds to email/voice inquiries regarding course registration and payment, presentations, CME, etc.
Perform other office duties and tasks as assigned.
Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating the CPH website.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with a degree in public health, public policy, or another field that included quantitative and qualitative statistical coursework is preferred. No licensure or certification required.
Preferred qualities and skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong quantitative, statistical and data analysis skills.
Experience with proficiency with STATA, SAS, or R, Microsoft Office, Redcap data base, Filemaker Pro and Excel.
Experience with health-related datasets and/or population surveys.
Knowledge of health policy issues.
