The Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science (VUIIS) is seeking a Biomedical Engineer II to join an interdisciplinary team working on research projects in the area of human physiology, pathophysiology, and in vivo imaging and spectroscopy. Under general supervision, the Biomedical Engineer II will support collection and analysis of research data. Experience with common research software (e.g. MATLAB, LabVIEW, REDCap, and/or statistical software) is preferred. The Biomedical Engineer II will also help with building a relationship between research study participants and the research team. The Biomedical Engineer II will be responsible for recruiting, interviewing, consenting, and scheduling test sessions in coordination with other medical center facilities (e.g. Clinical Research Center, VUIIS human imaging core, etc.). Collect, organize, and analyze data from a variety of reference sources (e.g. human physiology, imaging, and spectroscopy).
Develop and document reports and analyses summarizing research study test sessions
Assist in modification and coordination of research procedures and techniques
Assist in development, maintenance, and documentation of data analysis software code
Recruit, screen, schedule, and consent research study participants
Create and maintain REDCap database forms and surveys
Assist in managing Institutional Review Board documentation for human subjects research
Evaluate and establish data storage and security policies and procedures that are compliant with all pertinent regulations and standards
Assist in the preparation of materials (e.g. text, tables, and figures) for publication
Edit and/or type manuscripts according to accepted scientific practices
Prepare and present oral and written reports in a group setting
Read scientific literature and attend meetings, seminars, and in-service classes to maintain and advance personal knowledge
Assist in maintenance, modification, and quality control of computer systems, laboratory equipment, and laboratory space
Assist in the supervision and training of new and/or junior laboratory members
Monitor and maintain inventories of lab supplies including ordering and researching new equipment as needed
Assist in development of standard operating procedures for all assigned duties
