The Philip Lab has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Assistant II to study immune responses in cancer. Duties and responsibilities include: 1) Carry out experiments together with other team members and independently 2) Manage mouse colony and 3) Oversee lab safety, lab inventory, ordering, and general lab upkeep.
Managing mouse colony including transgenic and knockout mouse strains, carrying out genotyping by PCR and flow cytometry, and managing colony database
Administration of medications to mice via intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, and intravenous routes
Monitoring mice health and tumor development
Analyzing peripheral blood and tissues from mice and humans by flow cytometry
Preparing DNA and RNA from primary mouse tissues and cell lines for PCR and NGS studies
Designing and carrying out cloning projects
Culturing mouse and human cell lines and carrying out in vitro transfection/transduction
General lab upkeep, including inventory management and ordering
Training and supervising students
BS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology or related field:
At least 2 years of experience working with mice, including drug administration and genotyping
Experience with molecular biology including PCR and bacterial work
Demonstrated ability to hold a position of responsibility for an extended period
Ability to learn new techniques and work independently once objectives explained
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
Experience carrying out mouse bleeds and necropsies, isolation and preparation of mouse tissues for antibody staining, and analysis by flow cytometry
Experience with molecular biology techniques including primer design, PCR, and cloning
Experience with mammalian cell tissue culture and sterile technique
Strong computer skills including data management, R programming, and literature/web searches to develop protocols and methods
