Schenectady County Glendale Home is seeking candidates for the Director of Nursing position!
This is an administrative position which has the responsibility and oversight for all the nursing services provided in the nursing home. This position involves the responsibility for planning, directing, and supervising all institutional activities as they apply to nursing services. The work is performed under administrative direction of the facility administrator, with leeway allowed for exercise of independent judgment. Supervision and direction is exercised over all nursing-service personnel. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Directs all phases of the nursing service to ensure complete and competent nursing care for residents;
Coordinates the nursing service with other activities of the facility;
Confers with facility administrator and other administrative and professional personnel to assist in establishing and reviewing policies, programs, and procedures;
Makes contacts as necessary with nurses, physicians, residents, and relatives of residents regarding the care of residents and related activities;
Conducts conferences with nurses to plan, interpret, and review policy, programs, and procedures;
Oversees the activities of all nursing service personnel;
Conducts pre-employment interviews and terminations, is part of the hiring process of nursing staff and conducts performance appraisals and evaluations;
Participates in labor relations process as applicable;
Evaluates the quality and quantity of the nursing services rendered in the institution;
Recommends physical facilities, equipment, and supplies needed to carry on the nursing services;
Plans, directs, and participates in the in-service training program including orientation of new nursing personnel and continuing staff development;
Assists in the preparation and control of the nursing service budget;
Keeps abreast of new developments in medical science and nursing in order that necessary changes and adaptations may be promptly initiated and effectively executed;
Attends seminar and in-service as required to promote professional growth;
Conducts correspondence, keeps records, and submits a variety of reports related to the nursing service;
Performs other duties as required.
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's or higher level degree in Nursing and three (3) years of experience working in a long term care facility of which two (2) years shall have been as a Registered Nurse in a supervisory position; OR
Graduation from an approved three year school of professional nursing or an accredited New York State registered two year college with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and five (5) years of experience working in a long term care facility of which two (2) years shall have been as a Registered Nurse in a supervisory position.
