The Pediatric Speech Language Division of the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center is a dynamic out-patient pediatric speech and language clinic consisting of more than 35 clinical staff members encompassing Speech Pathologists, Clinic Technicians, and Occupational Therapists. Our primary site for service is housed within the state-of-the-art Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center located in the heart of the Vanderbilt Medical Center Campus. We have a number of satellite locations. We have established numerous specialty groups of professionals including but not limited to areas such as Preschool Speech-Language, School-Age Speech-Language and Literacy, AAC, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. In this rewarding and pivotal role, your duties will include but not be limited to the following:
Assessment and intervention serving children birth to 21 years in most areas addressed under the speech pathology scope of practice, but definitely including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Hearing Impairment, general language and articulation needs, pediatric TBI, AAC use, and Behavior Management
Counseling of families, consultation with physicians, educators and other professionals serving our patients.
Documentation of services and contacts within the electronic medical record (based on facility timeline standards) which will support billing for services
Participation within specialty groups
Graduate Student clinical teaching and supervision associated with personal patient schedule following successful completion of clinical fellowship.
Analyzes comprehensive information from formal and informal assessment that is pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine a rehabilitation treatment diagnosis.
Collaborates with stakeholders in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the rehabilitation continuum.
Applies appropriate, evidence-based interventions to ensure effective outcomes and re-evaluates performance to assess patient's progress towards goals.
Employs strategies to promote successful return to home, community, and school/vocational environments.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY PATIENT EVALUATION (NOVICE): - Demonstrates proficiency in evaluating patients with speech-language, auditory, and/or swallowing/oral feeding deficits using the appropriate testing methods and equipment for the patient type, diagnosis, and reason for the referral. Demonstrates the ability to obtain the case history and selects appropriate measures and performs a functional assessment to document patient's status requiring skilled therapy. Interprets the results of the assessment and their significance for the patient, family, referring physician and other members of the health care team.
SPEECH PATHOLOGY TREATMENT IMPLEMENTATION (NOVICE): - Demonstrates proficiency providing treatment consistent with physician prescription and established plan of care. Identifies treatment objectives based upon assessment results and family input. Writes functional objectives in measurable terms that are consistent with the family's goals and resources. Applies evidence based clinical management practices. Identifies and recommends additional/alternative services when appropriate.
REHAB THERAPIST PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (NOVICE): - Demonstrates proficiency in documentation practices. Documents in the appropriate templates and utilizes only approved abbreviations within patient documentation. Meets institutional standards for quality and timeliness of documentation.
DISCHARGE PLANNING (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS): - Demonstrates proficiency in the discharge planning process. Informs patients, family and members of team of the patient's needs based upon the assessment and/or treatment. Makes recommendations for continued services, follow-up, or referrals to other services. Seeks guidance consistently on the transition and discharge process including transition services and referral resources.
SPEECH PATHOLOGY PATIENT & FAMILY EDUCATION (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS): - Demonstrates proficiency in communicating functional impact of assessment findings, treatment interventions, treatment planning diagnosis, and disease process. Considers the communication needs/level of understanding of audience and may share appropriate information/literature.

Masters Degree from a CAA Accredited Program
Clinical Fellowship Eligible thru ASHA
Tennessee Provisional Licensure or Registry of Clinical Fellowship with Tennessee Board of Licensure for Speech Language Pathology to be in place prior to start date.
NO less than 1 year of experience in pediatric service provision within the last 3 years of graduate study
Flexibility measured through attitude and willingness to meet patient and departmental needs in a timely manner
Great Communication Skills
Proficient Technical Report Writing Skills
Patient schedule of NO LESS than 35 out of 40 hours, with group therapy a possibility
Ability to travel to satellite locations to provide services

***SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: MUST HAVE SERVICE PROVISION EXPERIENCE (ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT OF SPEECH AND LANGUAGE NEEDS) FOR CHILDREN WITH A DIAGNOSIS ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM; ADDITIONALLY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO ADDRESS LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION NEEDS ASSOCIATED WITH LOW-TECH AND HIGH-TECH AAC. MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE SERVING CHILDREN WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT.
40 hours/week with shift beginning no earlier than 8:00AM and ending no later than 6:00PM. Shift may vary day to day Monday thru Friday
