Heritage Community of Kalamazoo is a not-for-profit organization located in one of Kalamazoo's historic neighborhoods, offering a range of services including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. Rooted in a 70-year tradition and led by a volunteer Board of Directors, HCK is the oldest and only locally owned and operated not-for-profit senior housing community in Kalamazoo. Committed to providing the highest quality services to over 400 residents who call HCK home, the organization continues to be an innovator in customer-focused care and is pursuing a number of exciting initiatives and preparing for another expansion.
Over the years, HCK has grown to include seven communities designed to meet the vastly different needs of Kalamazoo's older adults, and recently acquired a private duty home care agency with services being introduced on and off campus. HCK is currently expanding independent living by 60 units and redesigning its skilled center to provide all private rooms and has a career advancement initiative, culinary apprenticeship program, and Smart Technology joint venture underway. Through innovation and stewardship, the organization is committed to the care of our older population.
Reporting to the President/CEO, the Vice President of Operations (VPO) is responsible for leading the daily operations for all aspects of HCK and is accountable for achieving exceptional senior living services and high quality healthcare, maintaining a person-centered culture, and ensuring high resident and staff satisfaction. This is an executive leadership role and requires discretionary thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making skills. As a member of executive management, the VPO will provide leadership support to Departmental Directors over all operational areas of the organization. This position will drive key strategic objectives to support the Best FriendsTM model of care through a multidisciplinary and person-centered approach.
The finalist candidate will be an individual with excellent interpersonal communication skills and an aptitude for establishing and sustaining positive relationships, creating consensus, and motivating people. (S)he will demonstrate an understanding of and successful history in a leadership role within a retirement housing environment. The VPO must enthusiastically support the mission, vision, and values of HCK. A minimum of five to seven years of senior management experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Health Care Administration is required, Master’s preferred.
