Edenwald’s history of caring goes back more than a century. Our senior living community began in June 1881 as The General German Aged People’s Home of Baltimore. The community, which became known as the Greisenheim, was established to care for older German citizens.
In 1936, the Greisenheim moved from its downtown location to a modern building in the Irvington section of Baltimore City. It merged with another care center in the early 1980s, and the combined community then moved to Towson, onto land purchased from Goucher College.
Since then, the Edenwald retirement living community has continued to evolve to meet the lifestyle and healthcare needs of all its residents, from active adults to residents requiring compassionate, experienced memory care.
Edenwald is a not-for-profit entity governed by The General German Aged People’s Home of Baltimore, Inc. It is not affiliated with any ethnic or religious organization. Edenwald’s residents come from all backgrounds, races, faiths and ethnicities. All qualified resident applicants are considered without regard to race, color, creed, gender or national origin.
