The primary responsibilities of the Director of Nursing (DON) are to assume authority, responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility. Administration of the Pannill Healthcare center – through mission, vision, standards, interdepartmental team building, strategies to promote communication and collaboration, policies & procedures, determining staffing needs, budgeting and sources of reimbursement. Managing and Developing Staff - through recruitment, hiring, orientation, performance appraisals, discipline, staff development, time management & stress management. Resident Care – through assessment, care planning, managing clinical emergencies, safe medication administration, ethical issues, residents’ rights, infection control and integrative care. Quality Assurance and Assessment – through critical thinking, root cause analysis, systems reviews, performance improvement and quality assurance. Legal Issues – through development of excellent resident & family relationships, immediate complaint investigation and required reporting. Regulatory Compliance – through understanding the federal and state regulation requirements, ensuring good quality surveys and instituting plan of corrections as needed. Collaboration – through cooperation with other departments, medical professionals, consultants and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups to develop, support and coordinate resident care, related administrative functions and to represent the interests of the facility.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures; set a good example for others.
Attend/complete all in-services, training and meetings as required by Sunnyside.
Meet all training requirements as required by Federal and State regulations and by Sunnyside.
Demonstrate a commitment to safety by following safety rules & guidelines; follow good housekeeping practices, take proper care of equipment and perform job duties and responsibilities in a safe and responsible manner.
Be dependable, reliable and punctual with attendance; plan appropriately for absences when possible.

Exercise good time management practices while maintaining quality of work; plan and organize work load to ensure job duties are handled efficiently and effectively and provide timely responses to those who request information.
Ensure personal hygiene, appearance and dress; present neatly groomed appearance and follow department dress code ensure identification badge is worn where visible.
Demonstrate dependability, reliability and punctuality. Report to work when schedule, ready to work.
Ensure all emergency preparedness practice drills and protocols are followed.
