As a member of our Clinical Research Office (CRO) at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute (SOCCI), you will bring your dedication and expertise to collaborate on cancer trials and assist on cancer research studies. You will provide support and service to faculty and staff conducting oncology research. Your work will support our mission of rapidly translating research discoveries into safe, effective treatments.
As the Clinical Care Associate (CCA) at the Cancer Institute, you will provide clinical and administrative support to nurses, physicians and allied health professionals. As the CCA, you will perform non-invasive routine technical services under the direction of a licensed clinician. You will function within scope of education/certification and not to exceed what is permitted by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center policies, procedures and guidelines.
You will also be responsible for the following:
You will interview patients, data collection, documenting in the medical record, exam room set-up, cleaning and preparation, ordering/stocking of medical supplies, general administrative support, and other duties as assigned.
You will perform a patient intake (e.g., interview established subjects to facilitate data collection prior to patient being seen by clinician; measure vital signs, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, height and weight, and other required information)
You will perform patient blood withdrawals
You will prepare a patient's medical records, films and test results prior visit to ensure paper and/or EMR chart is ready for the licensed clinician.
You will provide pre-printed patient educational material and visit summaries as directed by licensed clinician and/or study team lead.
Support overall clinic maintenance as it pertains to study needs, such as ordering/stocking medical supplies, monitoring for expiration dates, helping with QC of subject specimens, packaging of subject specimens for shipment.
Prepare subjects for minor office procedures and tasks, as it pertains to research project. Complete documentation and participate in subject check out process, as applicable.
Immediately report all out of range and abnormal data, as specified by study protocol, to licensed clinician using approved parameters.
Collecting and preparing lab specimens and delivery of clinical research-related items. Follows hospital policy and study protocol, if applicable, for specimen labeling and logging.
Answers phone calls from research subjects and routes calls to appropriate personnel. Answer participant questions and provide information regarding the study, explaining procedures, and consent process.
May work on campus, and occasionally be asked to work off-site at events and/or on the weekend.
May have to assist with engagement and recruitment activities, under the discretion of the team lead/manager, to promote visibility and awareness for the program.
Adhere to all regulatory standards including but not limited to the Joint Commission, and California Department of Health. Follows hospital and HIPAA policies and procedures related to patient confidentiality.
