Living and working in western South Dakota provides an extraordinary opportunity to experience authentic western lifestyle. The rugged terrain features wide-open prairies and the Badlands National Park. The reservation is in an area of transition between mixed grass prairie to the East and to the West, the ponderosa pines and Black Hills spruce hills blanket the peaks throughout the Black Hills National Forest. There is a great variety of plant and animal life flourishing on and adjacent to the reservation while the area is also important in the field of paleontology; with one of the largest deposits of fossils of extinct mammals found anywhere in the world.
