The PCP is a core team member in the PACT model and is responsible for leading and collaborating with their team of health care professionals to provide comprehensive primary care in collaboration and partnership with the Veteran. The PCP evaluates, provides diagnoses and provision of care to adult patients for the treatment of general medical problems and makes referrals to specialty care to meet the needs of the Veteran. The PCP addresses a large majority of personal health care needs and develops a collaboration and partnership with Veterans. The responsibilities of the PCP include but are not limited to: diagnosis and management of acute and chronic medical and psychosocial conditions, health promotion, disease prevention, overall care management, post deployment care, Veteran/caregiver education and potential tele-health primary care.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine preferred.
Work Schedule: Duty hours are Monday - Friday,8:00 am to4:30 pm. As a part of our elite team of providers, the incumbent will also be required to rotate through Saturday Primary Care Clinics and weekday evening hour clinics to provide extended care opportunities for our Nations Veterans.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training - Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA),
in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines
to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
