Functional Statement Title/#: Staff Physician
The Extended Care Service (ECS) Community Living Center (CLC) physician independently provides patient care to residents of the Extended Care inpatient venues at one of the three inpatient divisions of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS); Palo Alto, Menlo Park & Livermore, The Staff Physician is responsible for being an attending of record for inpatients in the VAPAHCS CLCs. Responsibilities include providing primary care to the patients of the CLC working in concert with the interdisciplinary team delivering patient-centric care.
The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Clinical: The CLC Staff Physician is primarily assigned inpatient attending responsibilities in the CLC, The Staff Physician is responsible for providing admission H&P, assessment, diagnosis & referral, supervision of nurse practitioners, evaluating referrals and participating with admitting decisions, leading and participating in family conferences, and being an active member of the interdisciplinary team. The incumbent is an integral part of the CLC interdisciplinary treatment team, and participates in all activities pertinent to the inpatient unit. The incumbent also participates in and directs activities pertaining to the quality improvement, strategic planning, and The Joint Commission accreditation process. The incumbent may also participate in the training of rotating trainees from multiple disciplines.
Administrative: The Inpatient Staff CLC Physician may hold a faculty appointment at Stanford University, in the division of GIM. The incumbent will participate in the educational activities of rotating medical fellows in Geriatrics and Palliative care. In addition, the provider is expected to participate in the educational activities of providers of multiple disciplines.

Research: as available and as time allows.Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
- Degree: Degreeof doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency: Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
- English Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: This position requires: light lifting, under 15 pounds; light carrying, under 15 pounds; use of fingers and both hands required; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; both eyes required.
