The Primary Care Physician Assistant (PA) Float provider will provide outpatient primary care treatment to Veterans with acute and chronic illness, with emphasis on preventative medicine. Evaluation and assessment of patients followed by evidence based treatment of patient's health care needs, in a Veteran centric, team-based model of care delivery. Routine coordination and collaboration with specialty care, mental health, and other team members, is considered an essential component of this position in order to ensure optimum patient health and delivery of efficient care. Duties of the Physician Assistant include, but are not limited to:
- Provides medical services to Veterans on an outpatient basis in the primary care setting. Provision of inpatient care may be seldom required, and will be then specifically requested of the primary care provider by the supervisor.
- Provides primary care medicine to an assigned panel of adult Veterans. Veteran populations we serve are mostly male, with diseases consistent with those seen in the general population, namely diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, COPD, mental health disorders, amongst others. Comprehensive primary health care for women is also required. A primary focus of practice is on preventive medicine.
- Participates in the provision of Pain Management, Mental Health, and End of Life Care to Veterans in the primary care setting as required.
- Participates in the use of clinical practice guidelines, provision of standard of care to patients, and meets relevant performance measures as mandated by Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
Work Schedule: No set schedule, work hours are based on business need, working from 0 to 40 hours per work week. Employee is to work periodically or for a fluctuating portion to work only as needed, as determined by management.

* Education. The candidate must meet the following:
o Graduate of a PA training program, or of a surgical assistant program which is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations; and
o A Bachelor's degree from an accredited PA training program or in another health sciences related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
o Current and continuous certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required for employment in VHA.
o Recent PA graduates who are eligible to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) may be employed by VA on a temporary basis (38 U.S.C. 7405), for a period not to exceed two years, as provided in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section G, Paragraph 5.
o If a PA's NCCPA certification is suspended, revoked or expires, the PA must be removed from the occupation which may result in termination of employment.
* English Language Proficiency. PAs appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) before the starting date of the position. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). The ACLS requirement is satisfied by attaining, and maintaining, current status through an approved AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. No online certifications will be accepted.
Preferred Experience: Four years of relevant clinical experience in primary care.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently to move objects.?, This could include moving objects such as pieces of equipment and assistance in moving clients.
