The incumbent will serve as a fully qualified staff psychiatrist at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) providing recovery-oriented care to Veterans who are admitted to a 20-bed, specialized, therapeutic mental health inpatient program for the treatment of psychiatric symptoms focusing on PTSD and associated disorders. The incumbent will be housed within the Inpatient Program, aligned under the Mental Health Care line and will work full-time on the inpatient unit. The 20-bed unit is split between a 10-bed male OEF/OIF/OND combat Veteran program (ROVER program) and a 10-bed program for female Veterans of all eras with a history of trauma (WISER program). The position will involve working on both programs, however, the main role will be on the male unit (ROVER program). This staff psychiatrist will work on an interdisciplinary mental health team to include a psychologist, a social worker and recreation/occupational therapists. Twice each week the psychiatrist will meet with the full treatment team during formalized rounds. Average daily caseloads vary from 8-10 patients per team. Duties include, but are not limited to, psychiatric evaluations and medication management as well as leading group therapy. The psychiatrist will have the opportunity to develop his or her own psychoeducation curriculum and lead a group 3-4 times per week. When needed to assist with clinical coverage, the psychiatrist may also be asked to provide care for Veterans admitted to the 53 bed acute inpatient mental health unit. Additionally, there are great opportunities to be involved in the educational mission of the MEDVAMC by serving as a rotation supervisor for Baylor College of Medicine trainees. All psychiatrists, both inpatient and outpatient clinicians, within the Mental Health Care Line share on-call responsibilities with approximately 3-4 weekends per year and one weekday per month.

- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of a first-year residency or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
