Major Duties: The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Medical students, residents, and fellows train at our facility. The selected candidate must be eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Arizona. The SAVAHCS is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including cardiac surgery and neurosurgery. The SAVAHCS is a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award.
The SAVAHCS professional staff is seeking a full-time psychiatristto provide quality service in our progressive, innovative, and highly interdisciplinary health care system for the Veteran outpatient population at our Tucson main VA campus. The incumbent will work as part of our Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMH) team. In this position the incumbent will provide outpatient care for a diverse patient population working as part of a highly skilled interdisciplinary team which is integrated with our Primary Care outpatient clinics. Duties will include seeing Veterans directly as well as providing consultation to colleagues in primary care. In addition to patient care, responsibilities include supervision and education of residents and medical students from the University of Arizona. Successful applicants will have a strong commitment to patient care and teaching. This position requires 3-4 weeks of call covering the inpatient psychiatry unit per year. During the week of call, the incumbent will provide telephone back up to the University of Arizona psychiatry residents and will work on the inpatient psychiatry unit on weekends supervising residents and treating patients. Possession of a DEA-X certificate or plan to secure one is required. Academic experience and research interest is a plus.
Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Psychiatry.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with some call coverage.

1. Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
2. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
3. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
4. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties in an inpatient/outpatient setting under normal and emergent conditions. Heavy lifting 45 lbs and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 45 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; repeated bending up to 1-2 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted.
