This announcement establishes a standing register of eligible applicants to be considered for permanent full-time appointments. The first list of eligible applicants will be pulled for referral on 11:59 PM (EST)February 10, 2017and then again every Friday at 11:59 PM (EST) until the closing

The Physician (Hospitalist)will be part of a teamproviding care tothe acute inpatient medical patients at the Danville Veterans Affairs Medical Center and will generally work a schedule of 80 hours during every two week period, rotating through various shifts of 8-12 hours.
- Position involves working and supervising mid-level practitioner, and teaching medical students and residents from the University of Illinois (faculty positions available).
- Primary duties include valuating patients admitted to the Medical Service, inpatient management, and disposition.
- Patients whose acuity or complexity exceeds the capacity of the Medical Center are transferred to a tertiary care facility.
- Other duties include performing occasional general medical consultations on psychiatric or surgical inpatients, and participation in routine quality assurance work and administrative committees which impact the acute Medical Service.
Work Schedule: 80 hours during every two week period, rotating through various shifts of 8-12 hours.

* U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
* Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
(4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.
* Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
* Residency. Physicians must have completed residency training inInternal Medicineor its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.
* English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) before the starting date of the position. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). The ACLS requirement is satisfied by attaining, and maintaining, current status through an approved AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. No online certifications will be accepted.

Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs.); light carrying (under 15 lbs.); use of fingers, walking 4-8 hours; standing 4-8 hours; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; hearing (aid permitted); working closely with others; working alone; emotional and mental stability required.
