The work to be performed must be provided by a qualified ED physician to diagnose, treat, stabilize and manage patients. Physician must have an unrestricted medical license and hold a current Basic Life Saving (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support(ACLS) certification.
-Order diagnostic tests and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to make appropriate treatment decisions.
-Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to complete the patients evaluation.
-Provide attending physician oversight to residents andmid-level providers as applicable.
-Stabilize all critically ill or injured patients.
-Admit patients to the hospital or discharge them from the ED with appropriate follow-up appointments.
-Discuss treatment plan with patient and family/caregiver.
-Perform medication reconciliation with all ED discharged patients.
-Physician will supportall safety, occupational health and fire protection/preventive program standards andregulations.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical requirements outlined below.
a. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with section A, chapter 3, paragraph 3g, this part.)
b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
c. Licensure and Registration. Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
d. Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
e. Physical Requirements. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
f. English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
-Board Certification Highly Preferred: American Board of Emergency Medicine or American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine Board Certified.
-Successfully completed a fellowship training program in Emergency Medicine.

Incumbent needs to be mobile in that the job requires: sitting, walking, standing, and bending for long periods of time (4-5 hours). Work requires daily trips from employee's work-site to other areas throughout the Medical Center. Working closely with others, light carrying, 15lb, use of fingers, both hands required.
