The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) is seeking a Full-time Physician (Rheumatology). Candidates preferably should be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and eligible for an appointment to the University of Michigan Medical School faculty as Assistant, Associate or full Professor level in the Division of Rheumatology. The successful candidate will have strong clinical skills, ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and proven record of working with trainees. This position's clinical responsibilities include interacting with medical students, residents and fellows, as well as primary care providers, while attending rheumatology outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include contributing to the achievements of quality of care standards, efficiency, process improvement, and patient satisfaction, and supporting the research and educational mission of the section to the highest standards. You will be expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.
Work schedule - 8/8th VA effort
* Citizenship of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with Department of Veterans Affairs policy.
* Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
-Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
-Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
-For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
* Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
* Completion of residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies are:
-Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency was completed,
-Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.

Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. he physical requirements of this position include occasional lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motion, and stooping. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes noisy environment. There may be an occasional need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness, and hazardous materials.
