Internship Description: The Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) is an internship program in the field of aging designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. The LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program is a 10-week immersive internship for students who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. The internship at Episcopal Retirement Services will focus on the area of interest and expertise of selected candidate. This opportunity will also provide the Intern the opportunity to engage with staff and leaders at all levels of the organization to ensure diverse leadership for the future of aging services the operations.
Reporting Structure: The intern will report to Megan Bradford, Vice President of Middle Market and Ministry, along with a manager in the department assigned based upon area of interest and expertise.
Organizational Description:
Founded in 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Episcopal Retirement Services’ (ERS) mission is to enrich the lives of older adults in a person-centered, innovative, and spiritually based way. As a not-for-profit organization, ERS serves older adults through a variety of senior living communities, as well as in-home and community-based ministries. ERS’ premier retirement communities include Marjorie P. Lee and Deupree House and Cottages in Hyde Park, and Episcopal Church Home located in Louisville, Kentucky. ERS also owns and/or operates twenty-seven affordable living communities for seniors with low incomes throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. In addition, ERS provides services for seniors living in their own homes through Living Well Senior Solutions, a geriatric care management program, and Deupree Meals on Wheels. ERS also serves as a trusted resource and partner for those living with dementia in the community as well as their care partners through its Center for Memory Support and Inclusion.
Requirements
What you need to know?
- A preceptor will provide guidance to the intern and meet with the intern weekly and as needed.
- A summer project(s) will be assigned to the intern that will benefit the organization and culminating with a special project presentation to key leaders.
- The intern will receive access to high-level executives and insight on the decision-making process within the organization. This will include:
- Meeting with President/CEO and intern.
- Attendance/participation in department, staff, and board meetings.
- Mentoring opportunities with key leaders within the organization.
- The intern will be provided access to a workspace and an employee orientation.
- The intern and preceptor will attend virtual LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program events including:
- Summer Enrichment Program - Networking event for Interns
- Summer Enrichment Program - Networking event for Preceptors
- A formal performance feedback upon completion of the internship.
What is the Focus of the Internship?
- To shape, develop and mentor a diverse workforce bound for leadership roles.
- To exposing future talent to the field of aging.
- To provide additional skills to prepare students to enter the job market, including presentations, and a performance evaluation to further enhance their experience.
- To provide a positive learning experience including a final evaluation focusing on positive accomplishments and opportunities for growth.
What type of student is qualified for the Internship?
- The ideal candidate will be a student nearing the end of his/her undergraduate studies or in graduate school and pursuing a degree in health services, nursing, social work, community development, or other related field.
What are we looking for?
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (DACA students are eligible to apply).
- Entering junior or senior year of undergraduate study in the fall of 2021 following the program.
- A 2.8 minimum grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
- Works effectively and diplomatically with a variety of publics, including residents, board members, community groups, government agencies, etc.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language and follow written/oral instructions.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
