Internship Description: The LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program is a 10-week immersive internship for students who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. The internship at Presbyterian Villages of Michigan will focus on creating diversity in executive leadership for the future of aging services. The selected intern will serve as Special Assistant to the President/CEO and work very closely with the PVM President/CEO during the entire period, receiving a wide range of executive leadership experiences. The intern will have a comprehensive, deep and intensive experiences in virtually all facets of the President’s/CEO’s responsibilities for a sizable and diverse statewide LeadingAge Member organization. This internship offers a $4,500 stipend, paid out three times, and housing.

Organizational Description: Presbyterian Villages of Michigan (PVM) will be celebrating its 78th anniversary in 2023 and has long been recognized as a premier provider of senior living and services. A non-profit, faith-based organization and recognized leader in the aging field, PVM has over 30 locations, which include affordable housing, independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and respite services, throughout Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Recognized as an innovative leader, PVM was an early adopter of home and community based services.
What you need to know?
- A preceptor will provide guidance to the intern and meet with the intern weekly and as needed
- A summer project(s) will be assigned to the intern that will benefit the organization and culminating with a special project presentation to key leaders
- The intern will receive access to high-level executives and insight on the decision-making process within the organization. This will include:
- A meeting with President/CEO and intern (virtual or otherwise)
- Attendance/participation in department, staff and board meetings
- Mentoring opportunities with key leaders within the organization
- The intern will be provided access to a workspace and an employee orientation
- The intern and preceptor will attend virtual LeadingAge Summer Enrichment Program events including:
- Summer Enrichment Program - Networking event for Interns
- Summer Enrichment Program - Networking event for Preceptors
- A formal performance feedback upon completion of the internship
What is the Focus of the Internship?
- To shape, develop and mentor a diverse workforce bound for leadership roles
- To expose future talent to the field of aging
- To provide additional skills to prepare students to enter the job market, including presentations, and a performance evaluation to further enhance their experience
- To provide a positive learning experience including a final evaluation focusing on positive accomplishments and opportunities for growth
Requirements
What type of student is qualified for the Internship?
- The ideal candidate will be a graduate student, pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in business administration, health care administration, organizational development, finance, economics or leadership
- Student will need a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (this position will require traveling to communities state-wide)
What are we looking for?
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Have completed the first year of a graduate program
- A 3.0 minimum grade point average on a 4.0 scale
- Works effectively and diplomatically with a variety of publics, including residents, board members, community groups, government agencies, etc.
