Job Summary This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist and/or technician supervisor, and functions in a support capacity for automated technology systems related to central fill pharmacy distribution. This includes implementation, monitoring, analysis, troubleshooting and maintenance of the automated dispensing systems and computer software and/or collaborating with IT or technology management to ensure system function. Interacts and trains pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and other staff members as needed on automated dispensing technology. Essential Functions -
Provides support in the implementation, installation, maintenance and updating of technology systems related to pharmacy distribution. Coordinate and review implementation plans, monitor and assist installation activities conducted by pharmacy staff and outside vendors to ensure agreed timetables are maintained. Act as a liaison with information technology services, technology management services, and vendor support personnel to ensure optimal system performance and database integrity. -
Serves as a resource to physicians, hospital personnel, and pharmacy staff in interpreting department/hospital/system policies. Regarding automated dispensing systems, acts as a resource, and may provide training to pharmacy staff, physicians, and nursing staff on the pharmacy distribution systems ensuring all parties have appropriate understanding of the system. -

Act as a liaison to the information technology department as it relates to troubleshooting and resolving technology system related issues. Serve as a liaison between pharmacy and other stakeholders during system upgrades and enhancements, coordinate facility moves of machines and related technology and new system installations including medication inventory and IT needs. Provide support during implementation of practice changes relating to the medication distribution system. Develops and maintains business continuity plans, including the development of policies and procedures, documentation standards, and follow-up tasks to minimize the impact of system outages, from single-system failures to catastrophic multi-system outages. -
Performs a variety of system maintenance functions, system audits, and calibration functions within the timeframes and to the specifications provided by pharmacy management. Maintains knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards related to scope of work, and ensures that all business processes are conducted in accordance with these standards, under the direction of the Pharmacist-in-Charge. -
Acts as a liaison with external fulfillment center vendors, including but not limited to: HVS, Logicor, EnterpriseRx, McKesson, and Parata. -
Assumes the duties of the Pharmacy Technician II when needed and as appropriate. These duties may include, but not be limited to preparing, charging and crediting medications, restocking automated dispensing technology and compounding specialty medications and intravenous medications. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Minimum Qualifications Skills and knowledge typically attained with acquiring a Pharmacy Technician License. Requires current and unrestricted pharmacy technician licensure in the state of practice (where applicable). Must demonstrate 3 years of experience performing in a pharmacy technician role. Must also have proven experience working with automated technology systems related to pharmacy distribution. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, problem solving, and conflict resolution of the pharmacy department. Preferred Qualifications Pharmacy technician certification preferred. Five years of experience performing in a pharmacy technician role preferred. Prefer previous experience in a central fill or mail order pharmacy environment. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. Computer software experience preferred. Experience serving as a pharmacy and nursing liaison for automated distribution systems desired. Additional related education and/or experience preferred. |
