The Behavioral Health Director is a Clinical Psychologist who works as part of the Behavioral Health team to provide direct patient care through psychotherapy. The Behavioral Health Director is also responsible for implementing community educational programs, assessing problems and determining appropriate types and methods of treatment, while implementing intervention methodologies. Job duties of the Behavioral Health Director include the following:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Perform psychotherapy, counseling and crisis intervention to patients as necessary. • Consult with primary care and urgent care providers on shared patients and referrals, including “warm hand offs” and “curbside” consulting. • Participate in all provider meetings during scheduled times at RCMS. • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all clinic staff functions in order to support full integration of the behavioral health program within medical services as well as regional school counselors and administrators in order to provide prevention, educational, and other supportive behavioral health services. • Provide supervision and training in Behavioral Health EHR procedures, Primary Care Counselor (PCC) model of practice and ongoing supervision and support for behavioral health providers and staff. • Provide psycho-educational programs for community members related to the acquisition and maintenance of positive mental health. • Assist in establishing behavioral health data base to track patient care and perform research related to service area. • Assist in grant application process, as needed. • Maintain currency of knowledge related to behavioral health through continuing education.
OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES • Limited travel required. This position will be based in the RCMS Gualala health center. Travel to the Point Arena facility (30 miles round trip) will be required from time to time. • Serve as facilitator/mentor for RCMS community groups such as Grief and Caregiver Support Groups. • Consult with Courts as necessary, and provide expert and consultative testimony when necessary. • Participate in County Mental Health services while representing RCMS. • Assist in grant application process, as needed.
• California Psychologist license in good standing. • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a health center or clinic environment. • Previous FQHC experience preferred. • Strong supervisory skills and ability to work with all level of staff functions. • Must be committed to the Behavioral Health Integration model of care. • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. • Strong communication skills and ability to train and mentor staff. • Current CPR certification is required and must be maintained.

Redwood Coast Medical Services (RCMS), located on the Northern Sonoma and Southern Mendocino Coast of California, opened in 1977, became incorporated and licensed as a community health center in 1978 and was designated in 1999 as a Federally Qualified Health Center. The mission of RCMS is to provide high quality, family-oriented, community-based health care services to area residents and visitors. As a not-for profit health center receiving public funds, RCMS provides services to qualified individuals on a sliding fee scale, as well as to patients with MediCal and Medicare coverage, private insurance and self-pay status.
The geography of the area is the Pacific Ocean to the west and a coastal mountain range to the east. Communities are clustered primarily in a linear fashion along California Highway 1 with the highway itself being a two-lane winding and hilly route. RCMS serves approximately 5000 patients per year for a total of 23,000 visits annually between all three RCMS facilities for primary and urgent care, dental and behavioral healthcare. The largest of the RCMS health centers is located in Gualala and 14 miles north is the RCMS Point Arena Dental and Medical centers. RCMS also runs a busy Urgent Care Department and is designated by the state as an Interim Stabilization Facility, allowing the health center to receive ambulance transports. The comprehensive health services of RCMS are a vital resource for area residents and visitors.
We are located on a remote stretch of coastline (about 2.5 hours North of San Francisco), with the closest hospital about 90 minutes away. Some patients needing transfer from our Urgent Care will take a 20 minute helicopter ride to either Sutter or Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa.
