Kendal at Hanover, an accredited, not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), offering comprehensive long-term care services, which support someone throughout their lifetime, has a rare and exciting opportunity for a full-time, salaried Dining Services Director. The successful candidate maintains excellent service and food quality while striving to have a top culinary program for Kendal at Hanover residents and staff by overseeing all culinary operations with an emphasis on production, training of culinary staff in preparation techniques and service, catering, menu and recipe development, resident, guest, staff satisfaction and sanitation. The candidate professionally manages staff, ensuring high quality food production and service throughout the department, and is also responsible for maintaining proper infection control practices as well as a culture of safety throughout the department. The director acts as a liaison between the department and other departments while participating on the senior management team. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Initiates, coordinates, and reinforces standards and procedures
Develops and maintains positive rapport with residents and staff through high visibility in all dining areas
Uses Food Service Management system effectively
Maintains a high level of administrative, resident and guest relations satisfaction
Demonstrates some working knowledge of diets and nutritional needs for Health Center residents
Ensures implementation and compliance with HACCP program.
Investigates and develops new programs to enhance- service, training, design, and delivery of culinary services
Supplements the staff as needed
Recruits, motivates, develops and coaches all staff by meeting formally and informally with staff to listen, to get to know them and observe their performance. Provides staff coaching and counseling as needed, accurately documents all incidents/issues.
Develops supervisors to full potential with follow up of established goals and performance objectives
Assures workload and coverage is evenly distributed between all team member
Completes timely and accurate budget submission. Meets targets set in Operating Expense Budget
Has, or is willing to obtain a ServSafe Certificate, as needed.
A college degree is preferred, but not mandatory in lieu of solid experience.
Experience and demonstrated ability to understand and adhere to both federal and state labor laws including OSHA standards and sanitation regulations.
Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate skills for communicating with all ages, especially the geriatric population.
Demonstrated ability to present orally to diverse groups of people, including staff, boards of directors, external organizations and the general public.
